Carlos Queiroz has disclosed that a structured local scouting initiative is already underway to help identify and evaluate top-performing home-based players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For years, footballers from Ghana’s domestic league have found it difficult to cement regular places in the senior national team, with foreign-based stars often dominating selections for the Black Stars.

However, the experienced Portuguese tactician says deliberate efforts are now being made to bridge that gap by closely monitoring standout talents within the local scene.

Carlos Queiroz set to name Ghana’s preliminary squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, Queiroz explained that he has spent recent weeks learning more about Ghana’s football ecosystem while working alongside the Ghana Football Association to speed up the assessment process.

“I went deeper to know some of the local players,” he noted. “We put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster.”

The four-time African champions are preparing for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada and Mexico later this year.

Drawn in Group L, Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in what promises to be a demanding first-round campaign.

The Black Stars begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17 before taking on England six days later. Their final group fixture will come against Croatia on June 27.
