Newly appointed Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to release Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup later this week as the team steps up preparations for the tournament in North America.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia at the expanded 48-team competition to be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The veteran Portuguese tactician, who was brought in following the departure of Otto Addo, is expected to announce an initial list before submitting the final squad ahead of FIFA’s June 1 deadline.
Queiroz faces the challenge of assembling a balanced and competitive squad capable of helping the Black Stars improve on their recent World Cup performances after disappointing group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022.

As part of their final preparations, Ghana will play international friendlies against Mexico and Wales before the tournament begins.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England in Boston on June 23. Their final group-stage encounter will be against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.

Ghana’s finest World Cup achievement remains the historic 2010 tournament in South Africa, where the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals and came within a penalty shootout of becoming the first African nation to make the semi-finals.
