Gambian midfielder Mahmudu Bajo has attracted fresh interest from Belgian club KV Kortrijk, who have submitted a reported €1.5 million bid to Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade for the 22-year-old, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
However, sources close to the player indicate that Kortrijk’s interest is not new, with the youngster continuing to attract significant attention from clubs across Europe and beyond.
Around 10 clubs from Turkey, Cyprus, Germany, Belgium, Poland, England and MLS are reportedly monitoring Bajo, but Red Star’s valuation remains the biggest obstacle to his departure.
Bajo has endured a difficult spell in Serbia since joining Red Star from Slovakian side DAC 1904, struggling to secure regular playing time. He managed just eight starts last season and has yet to make an appearance since the beginning of the new campaign.
The Gambian international is understood to be keen on a move that would provide him with more consistent first-team football. However, Red Star have continued to resist attempts to facilitate his departure.
With several clubs interested but unwilling to meet Red Star’s initial asking price, Bajo’s future remains uncertain. The key question now is whether the Serbian champions will lower their valuation and allow the midfielder to leave, or continue to keep him in their squad despite his limited playing opportunities.
For Bajo, securing regular football has become increasingly important as he looks to reignite his development and establish himself at the highest level.
