Ghana defender Abdul Mumin has signed a three-year contract with Girona, finalising his move to the Spanish second-tier club, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
Footy-Africa earlier reported that Mumin had arrived in Spain and passed his medical with Girona. However, meetings were still held to firm up the final details of the agreement before the deal could be completed.
Those discussions have now been successfully concluded, with Mumin signing his three-year contract on Monday night in Barcelona.
Mumin had several offers on the table after deciding against renewing his contract with Rayo Vallecano on reduced terms. Getafe were interested, while his former club Vitória Guimarães also explored the possibility of bringing him back to Portugal. There was also interest from Turkey, but none of those options progressed to an agreement.
Girona remained interested from the outset and made assurances that convinced Mumin to choose their project.
Girona manager Quique Álvarez personally sanctioned the move as the club are keen on securing LaLiga promotion this campaign.
A source close to the player told Footy-Africa that Mumin is fully committed to helping Girona achieve their target of returning to the top flight.
“His main objective is to help Girona secure promotion. He believes in the project and is ready to give everything to help the club get back to LaLiga,” the source said.
Before signing his contract, Mumin officially bid farewell to Rayo Vallecano, where he spent four years.
The move comes after a difficult period in the defender’s career following a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in March 2025. He spent almost a year recovering before returning to competitive football.
The centre-back made three appearances for Rayo last season, playing 78 minutes in total. His return also earned him a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although he did not feature during the tournament.

Mumin joined Rayo in 2022 from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in a deal worth around €1.5 million, having previously started his European career with Danish club FC Nordsjælland.
He now begins a new chapter with Girona, with promotion back to LaLiga firmly at the centre of his ambitions.
