Ghana defender Abdul Mumin has passed his medical with Girona and is now on the verge of completing his move to the Spanish club, Footy-Africa can report.
The development comes after Footy-Africa exclusively reported that Girona had emerged as the frontrunners for the 28-year-old’s signature, with the club having maintained contact over the move for some time.
Mumin is already in Girona and successfully completed his medical on Monday. The remaining formalities are now being completed, with the defender expected to sign his contract in the coming hours, barring any last-minute complications.
The former Rayo Vallecano centre-back will join Girona as a free agent after his contract with the Madrid-based club expired at the end of June.
Mumin had several options during the transfer window, including interest from clubs in top European leagues, but Girona eventually won the race for his signature.
His move comes after a difficult period in his career following a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in March 2025. He spent almost a year recovering before returning to competitive football.
The right-footed defender made three appearances for Rayo last season, playing 78 minutes in total, and was subsequently included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although he did not feature.
Mumin joined Rayo in 2022 from Vitória Guimarães in a deal worth around €1.5 million, having previously started his European career with Danish side FC Nordsjælland.
With the medical successfully completed, Mumin is now expected to put pen to paper and complete his move to Girona in the coming hours.
