Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged Ghanaians to throw their full support behind newly appointed Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the veteran tactician possesses the pedigree and experience to guide the national team on the global stage.
Queiroz, who previously managed countries including Egypt, Iran and Colombia, was handed a short-term four-month contract after Otto Addo’s dismissal in March.
The Ghana Football Association parted ways with Addo following consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany in international friendlies staged as part of Ghana’s preparations for the Mundial.

Despite concerns surrounding the timing of the coaching change, Gyan believes Queiroz’s vast résumé commands respect and confidence rather than doubt.
“Bringing in a new coach, we shouldn’t look down on the coach because he is one of the best coaches when we talk about CVs and everything,” he said in an interview with Channel One TV.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and a veteran of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups, stressed that unity around the team and technical bench will be crucial if the Black Stars are to make a strong impression in North America.
The four-time African champions face a daunting challenge in Group L, where they have been drawn against Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England six days later. Their group-stage journey concludes with a clash against Croatia on June 27.
