Nigerian forward Yira Sor heads into the summer transfer window with uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at KRC Genk.
The 25-year-old joined the Belgian side in 2022 from Slavia Prague, but his role at the club has reduced in recent seasons. He has made 42 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring six goals, although most of those outings have come from the bench.
Sor was close to leaving Genk last summer after attracting interest from clubs in Germany and France, but no move eventually materialized, forcing him to remain at the club for at least another season.
Now, with his contract set to expire in 2027, questions remain over his future. Genk could also consider cashing in this summer if no extension talks progress, rather than risk losing him for free in the future.
The winger also made his debut for the Super Eagles earlier this year, coming on as a second-half substitute in Nigeriaโs 2-2 draw against Jordan in an international friendly in April.
While a stay at Genk cannot be completely ruled out, any concrete offer this summer could see the Nigerian leave Belgium ahead of next season. With the transfer window fast approaching, here are four clubs Yira Sor could potentially join.
RB Leipzig (Germany)
Bundesliga side RB Leipzig could emerge as a possible destination for Yira Sor this summer as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League next season.
The German club may lose highly-rated youngster Yan Diomande, who has attracted interest from several European heavyweights, and Sor could represent a like-for-like replacement.
The Nigerian has already shown his quality on the European stage, including scoring twice for Genk in the Europa League this season, making him a strong option for the club.
Olympique de Marseille (France)
Super Eagles forward Yira Sor could also end up in France with Marseille, who could also require attacking reinforcements this summer, especially if Mason Greenwood departs the club, having attracted interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The presence of fellow Nigerian Tochukwu Nnadi at Marseille could also help Sor settle quickly should a move eventually happen in the summer.
No concrete offers yet for Nigeria winger Yira Sor despite exit rumours at Genk
Werder Bremen (Germany)
Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen are another possible option for Yira Sor if they decide to make a concrete approach during the transfer window.
Die Werderaner endured a difficult campaign in the recently concluded Bundesliga season and are expected to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign as they aim to improve their performances and compete at a higher level next season.
Schalke 04 (Germany)
Newly-promoted Bundesliga side Schalke 04 could also make a move for Super Eagles forward Yira Sor as they prepare for life back in the German top flight.
The club will be aiming to avoid an immediate return to the second division and may look to add experienced attacking options to improve their chances of staying up next season, a profile that Sor fits given his experience in Europe and also in the Belgian top-flight.
