Uganda National Senior team striker Muhammad Shaban is on the verge of joining Danish second tier outfit Horsens FC, following an extended spell of negotiations, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.

The 27-year-old is currently a free agent, following the expiry of his contract at Libyan top-flight outfit Al-Anwar FC, a side he joined on a short-term deal in February this year from Al-Hilal Benghazi. And, Horsens have moved to lure him to a three-year employment contract.

An exclusive source at HA Football Management, who represent Shaban’s business, has revealed to Footy-Africa that the two parties have held talks for the past week, and that what’s holding the deal is the assurance for playing time which the player demanded.

β€œTalks as initiated by Horsens with Shaban and the camp are going on positively, and it has been the case for the past seven days or so. The club (Horsens) has tabled a three-year contract and salary is already agreed. However, it’s not just case of getting a deal and getting paid, what Shaban has demanded is an assurance that he will get regular time on the pitch, as it’s important for his return to the national team ahead of the December Africa Cup of Nations,” the source of disclosed to Footy-Africa.

At Al-Anwar last season, Shaban played 11 matches, as he bagged four goals with two assists. Previously, at Al-Hilal Benghazi, he scored twice and assisted one goal across the local league and the CAF Confederation Cup. In the past, he featured for Vipers SC, Onduparaka FC, Kampala Capital City Authority (two stints) plus Moroccan and African giants Raja Casablanca.

Internationally, Shaban is a graduate from the youth system of Uganda’s football pyramid, playing for the Uganda U-17, U-20 and U-23 teams before elevating to the Uganda Cranes. He is capped 24 times and has scored six times with two assists, with his recent goal coming against Botswana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole last year.
