“Wilfred knows what he is doing”, — former Super Eagle on Ndidi’s possible move to Besiktas

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper coach Ike Shorunmu, who enjoyed his own spell with Besiktas during playing career, talking exclusively to Footy-Africa suggested that Wilfred Ndidi, who is unlikely to stay in Leicester City, must ultimately do what’s best for himself but admitted he would not mind seeing him in the Turkish Super League.

The 28-year-old has two years left on his contract with Leicester City and, following the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship last season, it is clear he doesn’t want to play in England’s second tier.

That stance has put several clubs on alert. Everton and Manchester United are believed to be monitoring the situation, while Besiktas reportedly tested Leicester’s resolve earlier this week with a €7 million bid.

The offer was turned down, with the former Premier League champions valuing Ndidi at around €9.5 million, a figure higher than what the Turkish side proposed.

Leicester are not desperate to sell Ndidi but have said they will not stand in the midfielder’s way if the right offer comes for the Nigerian.

“Ndidi should stay in the Premier League,” – Nigerian legend Yobo advises, amidst links to Real Betis and Juventus

“I believe Wilfred knows what he is doing and will do what is best for himself and his career at this stage of his life,” Shorunmu told Footy-Africa.

“Transfers are not an easy thing to be fair, so I hope he takes the best decision possible. It is entirely up to him to decide whether to stay or go. For me, I will not mind if he takes his game to Turkey because it is also a good league, as I have played there before. I wish him all the best in whatever decision he takes,” he added.

Ndidi has been a key figure for Leicester since joining from Genk in January 2017. Last season, he made 30 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing five assists.

In total, he has played 303 games for the club, with 18 goals and 22 assists to his name.
