Nigerian forward Terem Moffi is unlikely to join Hull City this summer despite several reports linking the striker with a move to the English Championship side, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
Moffi is expected to leave French club OGC Nice this summer after his relationship with the club deteriorated during the second half of last season.
The 27-year-old spent part of the previous campaign on loan at Portuguese giants FC Porto, but the Dragons opted against exercising their option to make the move permanent.
Moffi made nine league appearances for Porto, scoring one goal and providing one assist, while also helping the club win the league title.
With his future at Nice uncertain, the former Kortrijk forward has been linked with several clubs, including Hull City.
However, Footy-Africa understands from a source close to Hull City that the club have not expressed an interest in signing Moffi at this stage, making a move to England unlikely.
Moffi has previously attracted interest from Premier League clubs Everton and Leeds United, although neither move materialised.
Footy-Africa understands that Moffi’s representatives are working to secure a permanent exit from Nice, with the player keen to begin the new campaign on a positive note.
The Nigerian international has also been linked with a move to Germany, with Bundesliga 2 side Hamburger SV reportedly among the clubs interested in his services. Turkish giants Besiktas have also been credited with an interest.
Hamburger SV move gathering pace
Reports from Germany suggest Hamburger SV are now close to reaching an agreement to sign Moffi, with the transfer expected to be finalised in the near future.
Personal terms are understood to have already been agreed with the player, while Nice and Hamburger SV are working to resolve the final details of the transfer.
A move would bring an end to Moffi’s increasingly difficult spell at Nice, where his relationship with the club has become strained over the past six months.
Moffi joined Nice from Lorient almost four years ago and remains under contract with the French club until 2027.
His next destination is yet to be officially confirmed, but Hamburger SV currently appear to be among the leading contenders for his signature.
