Nigerian teenage winger Maliq Musa has completed his move to Belgian side Zulte Waregem from Nigeria Premier Football League outfit Ikorodu City.
Footy-Africa understands that the transfer was completed earlier this week after the highly rated youngster successfully passed his medical tests.
Maliq has already begun training with Essevee as he looks to fight for a place in the first team.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Ikorodu City’s Media Director, Samuel Bamisebi, expressed the club’s delight at the youngster’s move.
“Malik is a very talented young player. He has good speed and the ability to take on players, which is what you want to see in a winger. I remember when he made his debut against Shooting Stars on the final day of the league,” he told Footy-Africa.
“It was a moment of reflection for us and our academy, where we screen players, and he made a very good showing on that day. Since then, it has been upward and upward, and I think it’s only getting better for him.”
Maliq had attracted interest from several European clubs, including Spanish giants Barcelona, but Belgium was considered the ideal destination for his development.
Bamisebi believes Zulte Waregem is the right club to help the teenager fulfil his potential.
“Belgium is a good place to go and develop, and Zulte Waregem have bought into the ideology and seen how much he can grow. We are very proud and happy with his development. We know he’s going to go on to do great things because of his style of play,” he added
“He’s also a very calm person, listens and is ready to learn. He’s a young boy who is really destined for the top, to be very honest, and I think he’ll get there. We’re proud of him.”
Bamisebi is also confident that the winger has what it takes to succeed in Belgium and eventually attract interest from bigger clubs across Europe.
“He has what it takes to succeed in Belgium and beyond, to be very honest. I know he’s going to make a good showing in Belgium, and obviously there’ll be offers from other places. I know that he’ll be able to hit those milestones as well.”
