Nigerian academy One Touch FC are celebrating the latest step in Abraham Obasi’s promising career after the teenage forward completed a move to Portuguese giants FC Porto.
The 18-year-old Nigerian striker has signed a professional contract with Porto and will initially join the club’s Under-19 team for the 2026/27 season, marking another important stage in his development after making a name for himself in Nigerian academy football.
Obasi’s move to Portugal follows a period in which he impressed against some of Europe’s leading youth sides, with his performances for One Touch FC helping to attract attention from Porto.

Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, an official of One Touch FC said the academy was delighted with the transfer but was not surprised by Obasi’s progress, insisting that the youngster’s qualities and work ethic had always made him a player capable of making the step to European football.
“We are excited about the transfer, but we are not surprised because we have quality players, and our boys are doing well in Europe,” the One Touch FC official told Footy-Africa.
“It is a good moment for everyone, including Abraham, because he is a dedicated and hardworking player.”
Obasi’s breakthrough came during One Touch FC’s participation in the Viareggio Cup in Italy, where the Nigerian forward had the opportunity to test himself against some of the best young players in European football.
The academy official explained that although One Touch were eventually eliminated by Fiorentina in the semi-finals, the tournament provided an important platform for Obasi and his teammates.
“We went to Italy for the Viareggio Cup, but unfortunately, we lost to Fiorentina in the semi-finals,” he said. “From there, we travelled to Portugal. We played against FC Porto, Sporting CP, Braga and other top sides, and the boys did well.”
Those experiences proved crucial, with Obasi subsequently receiving an invitation from Porto to undergo a trial.

According to the One Touch official, the Portuguese giants had always been the academy’s preferred destination for the striker, making the eventual agreement particularly satisfying.
“So when Porto invited him for a trial, we were happy for him. Porto was always our top choice for him and it worked out that way,” he added.
Obasi’s performances have also given One Touch FC confidence that he can make the most of his opportunity in Portugal.
The academy official described the Nigerian as a striker with a strong presence inside the penalty area, while highlighting his finishing ability, creativity and overall attacking potential.
“He is a very good striker and dominant in the box. He has an eye for goal and is very creative as well,” he said. “He is an exciting forward with a lot of potential and promise. We have no doubt that he will succeed at Porto. We wish him all the best.”
Obasi has already had an introduction to Porto’s youth setup, having featured for the Portuguese club during the Best Cup in Madrid before completing his professional move. Porto went on to win the tournament, defeating Espanyol in the final.

The Nigerian forward now begins a new chapter with Porto’s Under-19 side, where he will continue his development with one of Portugal’s most established youth systems.
For One Touch FC, Obasi’s move is another example of the academy’s work in developing young Nigerian talent and providing players with opportunities to showcase their abilities on the European stage.
For the teenager himself, the challenge now is to build on the progress that earned him his move to Porto and establish himself within the club’s highly competitive youth structure and earned promotion to the senior side.
