Former Super Eagles defender and national team legend Joseph Yobo has backed his compatriot Victor Osimhen for turning down a move to Saudi Arabian top-flight side Al Hilal.
Al Hilal had reportedly offered him a massively lucrative contract—equivalent to around €40 million plus add-ons—and had even booked a flight to Saudi Arabia for his medical, only for the 26-year-old to reject the move. Osimhen instead opted to remain in Europe, favouring more competitive leagues.

Yobo believes Osimhen made the right call and advised him to secure a move to a top club in order to fully justify the decision.
“I think it’s a no-brainer—he made the right choice to stay in Europe, as it’s an opportunity to further cement his greatness and legacy at the top level,” the former Everton defender told Footy-Africa in an exclusive interview.
“The fact that he chose career over that huge offer is a testament to what he’s willing to sacrifice to stay at the top of his game. Don’t get me wrong—he’s already proven and he’s a great player. He’s in his prime years and can still get even better, there’s no doubt about that.”

“What will further justify his decision is if he joins a top project. He’s had interest from all over the world, but it all comes down to what best suits him. I trust he’ll get a top deal this summer. I’m really pleased with how this young man is maturing in the game.”
Osimhen has excelled at Galatasaray this season, scoring 37 goals and providing seven assists in just 41 appearances while on loan from Napoli—further proof of his clinical prowess.
During his four-year stint at Napoli, Osimhen made 133 appearances, scored 76 goals, and registered 12 assists. He also led the team to a Serie A title.
