Swedish top-flight outfit Mjallby AIF will not trigger the buy option for Nigerian wingback Uba Charles from Norwegian top-tier side Lillestrom SK when his loan spell expires, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Uba Charles has been on loan at Mjallby since March this year, with the deal set to run until July 15. The club had the option to sign the player permanently as part of the loan agreement. However, they have decided not to activate the clause.

A source at Aneke Player Management Group, who represent Uba Charles, revealed that the player will return to Lillestrom once the loan at Mjallby ends. His contract with the Norwegian club runs until June next year.

“They (Mjallby) have informed Lillestrom of their decision not to trigger the buy clause in his loan deal. He’ll be back at Lillestrom on July 15, and then a decision will be made on whether he stays to complete his remaining one-year contract or moves to another club. But it has been decided—he’ll return to Lillestrom,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.

The 22-year-old wingback has played just four matches since joining Mjallby on loan in March, failing to complete 90 minutes in any of them. He made 23 appearances for Lillestrom in the 2024/25 season before the loan and has featured 35 times overall for the club since making his debut in 2022.

Uba Charles, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €900,000, first moved to Sweden in 2021 to play for Linkoping City. The following year, at the age of 19, he joined Ljungskile SK, where he featured in 27 Division One matches.

Meanwhile, with the Nigerian senior team—the Super Eagles—Uba Charles has yet to make a competitive appearance. He previously represented the country at U20 level.
