Abia Warriors and Super Eagles Team B forward, Sunday Megwo, has halted contract renewal negotiations with Nigeria Professional Football League side Abia Warriors amidst transfer talks with clubs abroad, Footy-Africa reports.

A source close to the player revealed that the striker is eager to leave the Umuahia-based club, with several teams across Europe and Africa competing for the highly rated forward’s signature.

“Sunday could have left during the January transfer window, but the club pleaded with him to finish the season, as they were pushing for a place in the CAF Confederation Cup,” the source said.

“He played a key role in helping the team secure a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in the club’s history. The job is done, and now he is keen to leave for his first professional contract abroad.”

The lanky forward was one of the standout performers in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League season, scoring 12 goals and providing 5 assists in 34 games—finishing as the league’s third-highest scorer.
