Exclusively speaking to Footy-Africa, Kenyan international striker Michael Olunga has hinted that a return to European football remains a possibility in the future, even as he continues to shine in the Qatar Stars League with Al-Arabi SC.

The 31-year-old forward joined Al-Arabi earlier this year from Al-Duhail, where he departed as the club’s all-time top scorer. Since making the switch, Olunga has scored two goals in four matches, with his contract running until 2027.

In an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, Olunga revealed that while he remains fully committed to his current club, he has not ruled out a potential move back to Europe before the end of his career.

“I’m very happy here at Al-Arabi, it’s a great club with ambition and professionalism,” Olunga said. “But as a footballer, you always dream of testing yourself at the highest level. Europe will always have a special place in my heart because that’s where I grew a lot as a player, both in Sweden and in Spain. If the right opportunity comes in the future, why not?”

The former Girona and Djurgårdens IF striker also shared his admiration for some of Europe’s top leagues, admitting that the idea of playing in England or Italy appeals to him.

“I follow the Premier League and Serie A closely, they’re incredibly competitive and full of passion,” he added. “England, with its intensity and atmosphere, or Italy, with its tactical brilliance, are both destinations any player would love to experience. I wouldn’t close the door on that dream if circumstances align.”

For now, Olunga insists his focus remains on helping Al-Arabi compete for silverware while continuing to lead Kenya’s attack on the international stage.

“My priority is to give everything for my club and for Kenya,” he emphasized. “But football is unpredictable, you never know what tomorrow brings. I’ve learned to stay prepared, stay humble, and keep working hard. If Europe calls again, I’ll be ready.”
