Blackburn Rovers are negotiating with Ghana captain Jordan Ayew over a possible free transfer, with Championship rivals Burnley also showing interest in the experienced forward, Footy-Africa can report.
Ayew is currently a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season following the club’s relegation.
Blackburn have opened talks with the 34-year-old as they look to strengthen their attacking options. The club are understood to be confident of reaching an agreement, although discussions are still ongoing.
Burnley have also made enquiries about Ayew, but their interest is currently less advanced than Blackburn’s.
The Ghana international is understood to prefer remaining in England and has already turned down offers from Cyprus, including proposals from APOEL Nicosia and Apollon Limassol.
Ayew’s desire to continue playing in England has made Blackburn’s approach particularly attractive as he considers his next move.
The former Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Aston Villa forward made 42 Championship appearances for Leicester last season, scoring six goals and providing three assists.
His experience and versatility are key factors behind the interest, with Ayew able to operate as a striker or in wide attacking positions.
Blackburn are now working to reach an agreement with the Ghana captain, while Burnley continue to monitor the situation.
