Belgian giants Standard Liege have reignited their pursuit of Kenyan international and defender Daniel Anyembe, a year after failing to secure his signature, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
Anyembe, who currently plies his trade with Danish Superliga side Viborg FF, has once again emerged as a top defensive target for the Reds ahead of the January 2026 transfer window. Standard Liege manager Vincent Euvrard is said to have maintained long-standing admiration for the 26-year-old full-back and has now given the green light for fresh negotiations to begin.
The Belgian side had reached an advanced stage in talks with Viborg last year, but the move eventually fell through due to transfer window constraints and valuation differences. Since then, Anyembe has continued to impress in Denmark, prompting renewed interest from Standard Liege’s recruitment team.

The Kenyan defender extended his stay at Viborg in March 2025 with a new deal running until 2028, a move that now means the Belgian club would have to part with a significantly higher fee to secure his services.
A source close to the player’s agency, Nine Group, told Footy-Africa: “Standard Liege never really gave up on Daniel. They’ve been monitoring him closely this whole year. The club’s scouts and technical team believe he’s matured even more and fits perfectly into their tactical setup. Talks have quietly resumed, and both clubs are open to exploring what could be a big move in January 2026.”
Anyembe, valued at around €1.7 million, has been a cornerstone of Viborg’s defensive line since joining from Esbjerg in 2021, amassing 126 appearances in all competitions, including 13 this season.
For Kenya’s national team, the Harambee Stars, he has earned 13 caps with one assist since switching allegiance from Denmark, where he represented the Scandinavian nation at youth level.
