Tanzania’s defending champions, Young Africans SC, will have their hands full in the upcoming 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League group stage after being drawn into one of the competition’s most challenging pools.
The official draw, conducted on Monday at the SuperSport Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa, was presided over by CAF’s Head of Competitions, Nassar Khaled, with the assistance of African football icons Alex Song of Cameroon and Christopher Katongo from Zambia.
The Tanzanian giants, widely known as Yanga SC, were placed in Group B, where they will battle with some of North Africa’s most formidable clubs, record 12-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt, AS FAR of Morocco, and Algerian powerhouse JS Kabylie. It’s a group that promises both thrilling football and fierce competition as Yanga aim to prove themselves among the continent’s elite.
Meanwhile, Yanga’s archrivals Simba SC, who impressed last season by reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final, were slotted into Group D. They face another daunting path, coming up against Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), Atletico Petroleos de Luanda (Angola), and Stade Malien (Mali), a blend of experience and raw continental quality.
Elsewhere, Al Hilal SC of Sudan headline Group C, which includes 2016 champions Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), MC Alger (Algeria), and FC Lupopo (DR Congo), a group set to deliver high-paced, tactical football.
Group A features Renaissance Berkane (Morocco), Pyramids FC (Egypt), Rivers United (Nigeria), and Power Dynamos (Zambia), rounding out a balanced draw across the four pools.
The group stage fixtures are scheduled to kick off on November 21st, 2025, and will continue through to February 2026, with Africa’s biggest clubs set to battle for a spot in the knockout rounds of the continent’s most prestigious competition.
