Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Dortmund Match Preview

Bayer Leverkusen head into the clash in third position, one place ahead of their weekend’s opponents, as they continue their title challenge. The club has already changed manager twice this season, having endured a turbulent start to their league campaign.

Erik Ten Hag, who replaced the outgoing Xabi Alonso, was dismissed just two games into the season and was succeeded by Kasper Hjulmand, who has seen a remarkable upturn in results. Die Werkself have won seven of their 11 league matches and recorded a 3-1 result at Wolfsburg in their last match.

Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, head into the clash in fourth position following a disappointing 3-3 draw against fifth-placed Stuttgart in their last outing.

Despite leading by two goals at halftime, the Black and Yellow were pegged back three times in the clash in a stunning result for the away side. Dortmund have won six of their 11 league games this season, while their only defeat was a 2-1 loss at Bayern Munich on match-day seven.

  • 03.12.2023 – Bayer Leverkusen 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have edged this clash in recent meetings, losing only one of their last five matchups.

They are also unbeaten in their last four visits to the BayArena, winning three times and recording one draw.

Recent Form: Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have improved in recent outings and have all of their last three matches in all competitions, scoring 10 times and conceding just once.

Die Werkself have only lost once at home this season, a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim on match-day two and also failed to score once in their 11 league games, a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich on match-day nine.

Recent Form: Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have been inconsistent in recent outings, winning only one of their last five matches.

The Black and Yellow have only lost one away game this season, although they have scored in all of their games played in every competition.

Player to Watch: Nathan Tella (Nigeria)

Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella returned to action after recovering from injury as a late substitute in last weekend’s win over Wolfsburg.

The 26-year-old provided two assists in his first three matches and will be expected to play a major role for his side in this crucial clash.

Prediction

This fixture has a history of producing high-scoring encounters, with both sides finding the net in each of the last four meetings.

Given their attacking quality and goalscoring form this season, this particular encounter is expected to continue the trend.
