Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is set to leave Arsenal as a free agent after the club refused to meet his contract demands, Footy Africa understands.

The 32-year-old had been in talks with the Gunners for the past two months following a strong campaign in which he scored four goals and registered two assists across more than 30 Premier League appearances.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Partey’s representatives were pushing for a two-year deal or a one-year contract with an option for a further 12 months. However, Arsenal were only prepared to offer a straight one-year extension—a stance that ultimately led to a breakdown in talks.

Footy Africa understands that both parties failed to find common ground, and as a result, Partey will leave the club when his contract officially expires on June 30.

Clubs such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation and could make a move for the Ghanaian international in the coming weeks.

Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid. Despite his efforts in midfield, the Gunners failed to secure any major silverware during his time at the club, including three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League.

His exit comes as another midfield setback for Arsenal, who earlier this year saw Jorginho leave for Brazilian side Flamengo.
