Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a dramatic January transfer coup that could reshape the Premier League pecking order, with the North London club prepared to shatter their own wage ceiling to lure Antoine Semenyo away from under the noses of Liverpool and Manchester City.

According to TEAMtalk, Spurs are lining up an extraordinary financial package for the Bournemouth attacker, a proposal designed not just to attract the player, but to fundamentally disrupt the plans of their heavyweight rivals.

Manchester City join Liverpool in race for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo

Semenyo’s meteoric rise on the south coast has transformed him into one of the division’s most coveted forwards. At 25, the Ghana international has combined power, pace and end product to devastating effect, pushing himself firmly onto the radar of England’s elite.

Manchester City have already accelerated their pursuit, moving beyond initial enquiries into substantive talks with the player’s camp. There is growing belief inside the Etihad that personal terms would be straightforward if City opt to activate the £65 million release clause embedded in Semenyo’s Bournemouth deal, a clause that becomes live at the start of the January window.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain deeply invested in the chase. The Reds view Semenyo as a potential heir to Mohamed Salah, with Arne Slot reportedly drawn to his explosive athleticism, relentless ball-carrying and versatility across the forward line.

Tottenham, however, are preparing to flip the script. With Thomas Frank at the helm, Spurs are willing to abandon their traditionally cautious wage framework and elevate Semenyo into the club’s top earnings bracket. This aggressive stance has been fuelled by a recent £100 million equity injection into ENIC, Tottenham’s majority shareholders, which has emboldened the club to act with greater force in the transfer market.

After a series of near-misses where deals collapsed at the final hurdle due to salary disagreements, Spurs’ hierarchy are determined not to be outmanoeuvred again. This time, the message is clear: Tottenham intend to compete financially as well as tactically.

Whether that gamble will be enough to prise Semenyo away from the gravitational pull of Liverpool and Manchester City remains to be seen, but Spurs are ready to make a statement that echoes far beyond January.
