Uganda’s road to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has officially taken shape after head coach Paul Joseph Put confirmed the final squad that will carry the nation’s hopes in Morocco.

The Belgian tactician has settled on 28 players, cutting down his earlier provisional list of 30 as the Cranes intensify preparations for their return to Africa’s biggest football stage. Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago and defender David Owori are the two names that miss out at the final hurdle.

With the squad now locked in, the team has already set up base in Morocco, where they are undergoing residential training ahead of the tournament’s kick-off. The camp is expected to sharpen tactical cohesion and fitness as Uganda braces for a demanding group-stage challenge.

One of the standout inclusions is teenage forward James Bogere, whose rapid rise continues to gather momentum. Fresh from representing the country at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, the youngster’s selection underlines the coaching staff’s confidence in his ability to transition from junior football to the senior continental stage.

Bogere’s performances at youth level have marked him as one of Uganda’s most exciting prospects, and AFCON now offers him the biggest platform of his young career.

Uganda has been drawn into a tough Group C, where they will face continental heavyweights Nigeria, seasoned campaigners Tunisia, and regional rivals Tanzania.

The Cranes will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tunisia on December 23 in Rabat, a fixture that could set the tone for their entire tournament.
