Sevilla striker Akor Adams has spoken candidly about his move from Ligue 1 side Montpellier to Spanish La Liga club Sevilla, revealing exclusively for Footy-Africa why he jumped at the chance to make the switch.

Adams impressed early in his first season in France, scoring seven goals in his first ten matches for Montpellier. Although he eventually finished the campaign with 10 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, it was enough to catch the attention of bigger clubs.

The 25-year-old, who represented Nigeria at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland in 2019, completed a surprise move to Sevilla last January, just 18 months after arriving in France.

Unfortunately, his time in Spain got off to a rocky start. Injuries disrupted his rhythm, limiting him to just four appearances without a goal or assist for the remainder of the season.

Adams to Stay at Sevilla Despite Torrid Six Months

Speaking about the decision to join Sevilla, Adams explained that it felt like the right step in his career and one he didn’t hesitate to take.

“I knew it was the right move for me as I had other options but the club wanted me and their project suited me best. That’s why I decided to join them,” he said.

Now fully recovered from the injury setbacks, Adams is looking forward to making an impact in the upcoming season.

With preseason underway and a fresh start ahead, the Nigerian forward is optimistic about both his own form and the team’s prospects.

“I hope we have a great season. I know the team and I will have a great season and finish in a much better place than how we finished last season,” he said.

Reflecting on his time at the club so far, Adams also spoke fondly about his Nigerian teammates Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Though Iheanacho was loaned to Middlesbrough just as Adams arrived, the brief overlap left a lasting impression.

“They are really great guys and a joy to have them around, even though I did not spend much time with Kelechi (Iheanacho),” Adams said. “I get along with them and they make it a great place to be in, which makes life easier at the club,” he added.

With the new La Liga season on the horizon, Adams is hoping to stay injury-free and finally show the Spanish fans why Sevilla were so eager to bring him in.
