Highly rated Gambian youngster Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh is edging closer to a move to Germany after agreeing personal terms with Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln amid growing interest in his services across Europe and the Middle East.
The 19-year-old midfielder has emerged as one of the most exciting Gambian prospects abroad following an impressive breakthrough season with Tromsø IL in the Norwegian Eliteserien. Kinteh featured prominently during the campaign, starting 19 of his 21 appearances and delivering consistently strong performances backed by impressive underlying statistics.
Despite attracting attention from several clubs, reports indicate that Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al Ahli were the only other side to make concrete advances for the player in recent weeks. The reigning AFC Champions League winners reportedly explored a move for the Gambian talent before Köln moved ahead in negotiations.
Kinteh’s agent, Cherno Samba, has also dismissed speculation linking the player with additional clubs, describing many circulating reports as false while confirming that Köln currently remain in a strong position to secure the youngster’s signature.
European giants circle while Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh’s stock continues to rise
The development comes less than a year after a proposed €5 million transfer to Czech giants SK Slavia Praha collapsed at the final stage. Although that move failed to materialise, Kinteh’s continued rise in Norway has only strengthened his reputation as one of the continent’s emerging young midfielders.
A move to Köln would represent another major step in the player’s rapid progression and could see him become one of the latest Gambian talents to break into one of Europe’s top leagues.
