Serie A clubs are gearing up for a chaotic mid-season stretch as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, threatens to strip teams of nearly 50 key players. With squads required to release their African internationals by December 15, several sides are staring down a month of serious squad depletion.
While some heavyweights like Inter, Juventus, AC Milan, and Bologna will sail through the AFCON period untouched, others are preparing for sizeable gaps in their rosters. Lecce and Hellas Verona face the biggest blows, each potentially losing seven first-team regulars, a situation that could dramatically alter their season trajectories. Udinese, with six possible call-ups, also finds itself in the danger zone.
Among the clubs competing for the Scudetto, AS Roma look the most vulnerable. The Giallorossi could be forced to cope without defensive pillar Evan Ndicka and energetic midfielder Neil El Aynaoui, both crucial to their structure. Atalanta, meanwhile, will likely have to manage without star man Ademola Lookman, whose goals and creativity have become indispensable.
In a contrasting twist, title hopefuls with no AFCON absentees could enjoy a competitive edge as rivals scramble to plug gaps in their line-ups.
A notable absence from the tournament will be Napoliβs Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who has already been ruled out due to injury.
Below is the full list of provisional call-ups, organized by Serie A club.
