Ugandan playmaker Allan Okello has made a promising start to life at Young Africans SC (Yanga) following his January move from Ugandan champions Vipers SC, with his agent Sultan Atubo expressing delight at how quickly the midfielder has adapted to his new surroundings.
“Allan has settled in well at Yanga, he’s very happy and the club is very happy with him,” Atubo told Footy-Africa in an exclusive interview.
“It’s now different dynamics, and the routine is not the same as what he was used to back in Uganda, but he has settled in brilliantly. The environment, the expectations, the intensity of training, everything is on a different level, and he’s embracing that challenge.”
CAF Champions League: Allan Okello steels himself for familiar Al Ahly test
Okello joined the Tanzanian giants midway through the season and has already featured in five matches across competitions, with two appearances in the Tanzania Premier League and three in the CAF Champions League.
The 25-year-old has started four of those games, underlining the immediate trust shown in him by the Yanga technical team. Although he is yet to open his goal account, his overall performances have been encouraging, with his creativity and work rate catching the eye early in his spell at the club.
Atubo added that Okello’s integration into the squad has been smooth, both on and off the pitch, which has helped him adapt quickly to the demands of a new league and a new football culture.
“He has been welcomed very well by his teammates and the technical staff,” the agent said. “That support has made a big difference. He understands that joining a big club like Yanga comes with pressure, but he’s confident in his abilities. Right now, the most important thing is that he’s contributing to the team and growing into his role.”
Okello’s move to Young Africans followed a standout spell at Vipers SC, where he led the club to a historic domestic double, lifting both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup. He also finished the league campaign as the top scorer with 19 goals, cementing his status as one of the most influential players in Ugandan football.
