Akpe Victory is reportedly attracting interest from teams in Scotland, Belgium, Spain and Portugal after an encouraging season with Hungarian outfit Zalaegerszegi TE (ZTE), Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Despite the mounting speculation, those close to Victory insist the youngster remains focused on his football and is not allowing transfer rumours to distract him.

“Akpe is not worried at all because he enjoys life in Hungary and wants to continue proving himself there,” a source close to the player told Footy-Africa. “Yes, we heard about the interest from Rangers, but since then there has been no concrete update.”

“He is pleased that clubs are taking notice of his progress. It is not only Rangers that have shown interest. There have also been enquiries from teams in Spain and Portugal, but he has to be careful and think about what is best for his career.”

“We know there are rumours, but he is happy at ZTE. He is still a young player with a lot of room to grow. The club value him highly, but if the right offer arrives, I am sure they would consider it.”

Victory’s rapid rise in Hungary is beginning to attract attention far beyond the country’s borders, with clubs across Europe keeping close tabs on one of Nigeria’s most promising young defenders.

Standing at an imposing 6ft 5in, Victory has steadily built a reputation as a defender with the physical attributes and potential to succeed at a higher level. Although his first-team opportunities have been relatively limited, his performances have convinced several clubs that he is a player worth investing in.

Among the interested parties, Scottish giants Rangers are believed to be leading the chase.

The Glasgow club were first linked with the Nigerian youngster earlier this year, but discussions appeared to cool in the months that followed. However, fresh reports from Scotland suggest Rangers have renewed their interest and could soon formalise their pursuit of the defender, who is currently valued at €2 million by Transfermarkt.

Victory’s profile fits the mould of the modern centre-back. Strong in aerial duels, comfortable in physical contests and possessing considerable room for development, he is viewed as a long-term project with significant upside.

Rangers are also believed to be planning for the future amid growing uncertainty surrounding the status of fellow Nigerian defender Emmanuel Fernandez. After an impressive campaign, Fernandez has reportedly attracted interest from clubs outside Scotland, prompting Rangers to assess potential replacements.

With a contract running until 2028 and an option for a further year, ZTE are under no immediate pressure to sell. Nevertheless, the growing number of admirers means the Hungarian side may soon face difficult decisions should substantial offers arrive.

Victory made 18 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing one goal and one assist.
