Anthony Dennis plans to return to European football in the near future despite completing a move to UAE side Al Jazira, Footy-Africa understands.
The 23-year-old Nigerian midfielder has joined Al Jazira after choosing the UAE club over interest from Coventry City, Bayer Leverkusen, Anderlecht, Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce.
Sources close to the player told Footy-Africa that Dennis’ move to Coventry City collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree on the transfer fee.
Al Jazira subsequently presented the midfielder with an attractive financial package, including a good salary, which convinced him to make the move, a source informed Footy-Africa.
However, Dennis’ decision to join Al Jazira is not viewed as a permanent departure from European football.
Sources say the midfielder plans to spend some time in the UAE before returning to Europe, where he hopes to continue his development and compete at a higher level.
The move also gives Dennis an opportunity to play regularly and take on greater responsibility, while Al Jazira’s interest in the Nigerian has increased the club’s profile among African and European football audiences.
Dennis joined Göztepe from Nigerian academy side HB Academy and impressed during his time in Turkey, attracting interest from several European clubs.
After considering his options, the midfielder has opted for Al Jazira, with his long-term ambition still understood to be a return to European football.
