East African giants APR FC have officially entered the race to sign Ghanaian forward Stephen Amankona from Berekum Chelsea FC, joining Danish Superliga side Randers FC and Egyptian Premier League club Ismaily SC in pursuit of the prolific attacker, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
In an effort to steal a march on their rivals, APR submitted an opening bid of €60,000 on Saturday. However, the offer was immediately turned down by Berekum Chelsea, who value their star forward significantly higher. Sources reveal that APR plan to return with an improved €85,000 offer, hopeful it will bring the Ghanaian club to the negotiating table.
An exclusive source at Golden Gate Group, the agency representing Amankona, confirmed Berekum Chelsea’s firm stance on their €87,000 asking price. The 25-year-old remains under contract until January 2026.
“APR are the latest club to inquire about Amankona’s availability and even submitted a €60,000 bid late Saturday, which was instantly rejected. They’re expected to return with an €85,000 bid next week, but Berekum Chelsea are still holding out for €87,000, especially knowing there’s strong interest from multiple clubs,” the source told Footy-Africa.
Amankona enjoyed a standout season with Berekum Chelsea, scoring 18 goals in 29 league appearances. He has netted 37 goals in 58 matches since returning to the club, making him the Ghana Premier League’s top scorer for two consecutive seasons.
During his first spell with Berekum Chelsea between 2016 and 2020, Amankona scored 21 goals in 57 appearances. He later joined Asante Kotoko FC, one of Ghana’s most successful clubs, where he found the net seven times in 15 appearances before returning to Chelsea. His current market value is estimated at €175,000, according to Transfermarkt.
