Austria vs Ghana match preview

Austria head into the March international break with games against Ghana and South Korea as they look to build momentum ahead of the World Cup. They have been placed in group J, where they will battle defending champions Argentina, Algeria and Jordan.

Ralf Ragnick’s side received a huge boost earlier in the month when Borussia Dortmund midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and PSV’s Paul Wanner switched allegiances and were included in the squad.

Ghana, meanwhile, also head into this clash with several regular names in the squad, headlined by Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo and Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams.

The Black Stars were absent from the 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, but booked their spot in the upcoming World Cup and will also face Germany on March 30 as they ramp up preparations for the tournament.

Austria vs Ghana Head-to-Head record

  • 24.03.2007 – Austria 1-1 Ghana

Both sides met on one previous occasion in history, playing out a 1-1 draw in an international friendly match in May 2007.

Recent form: Austria

Austria have been much improved since the arrival of Ragnick as head coach and have won four of their last six matches, including a 10-0 win over San Marino back in October 2025.

The Boys have also won two of their last three home matches, the only exception being a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their last match, while they have also managed three clean sheets in their last six.

Recent form: Ghana

Ghana have been inconsistent in recent matches and have suffered defeats in both of their last two matches, losing 2-0 to Ghana and 1-0 to South Korea in friendly matches last November.

The Black Stars are without a clean sheet in their last two, although they managed three in four games before the poor run.

Player to watch

Antoine Semenyo (Ghana)

Semenyo eyes glory after dream start with Manchester City in Carabao Cup triumph

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has been in superb form for the Premier League side and will be hoping to bring his club form to the national stage and help Ghana secure a favourable result from this encounter.

His pace and dribbling ability will cause enough problems for the Austrian defence, which could serve as a major attacking outlet for his side.
