Bakery Jatta Set for Summer Exit from Hamburger SV Amid Bundesliga Return Preparations

Hamburger SV winger Bakery Jatta appears set to depart the club this summer after head coach Merlin Polzin reportedly informed the Gambian-born player that he is not part of the team’s plans for the upcoming Bundesliga season, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned. This development comes despite Jatta holding a long-term contract with the club until 2029.

Jatta, 26, has been a mainstay at HSV since joining the club in 2016, making over 180 appearances and earning a reputation for his pace, work ethic, and versatility on the flanks. However, as Hamburg prepares for its return to the Bundesliga after years in the 2. Bundesliga, Polzin seems to be reshaping the squad, and Jatta may become one of the notable casualties of that process.

Sources close to the club have confirmed that Jatta has received interest from VfL Bochum, who narrowly avoided relegation last season and are looking to reinforce their squad with experienced Bundesliga-ready talent. In addition, an unnamed club from the Saudi Arabian Super League has made an offer, as the Middle Eastern league continues its push to attract international players with lucrative contracts.

Jatta’s current market value is estimated at €1 million, a modest figure that reflects both his experience and recent form. A move to Bochum would keep him in the Bundesliga and allow him to prove his worth at the top level in Germany. On the other hand, a transfer to Saudi Arabia would represent a significant shift in his career trajectory — financially rewarding but potentially outside the European spotlight.

Hamburger SV has yet to make an official statement on the matter, but with the season approaching and Jatta’s future in question, it seems increasingly likely that both parties will part ways before the transfer window closes.

Jatta’s departure would mark the end of an era at HSV — one that saw him rise from refugee status to professional footballer and fan favourite, becoming a symbol of perseverance both on and off the pitch. His next move will be closely watched by supporters and analysts alike, as he looks to take the next step in his professional journey.
