Zambian international midfielder Benson Sakala has revealed to Footy Africa he received multiple offers from clubs in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe before ultimately choosing to join Bohemians Praha 1905.
The 28-year-old Zambian, who is valued by Transfermarkt at €300,000, signed a two-year deal with the Czech top-flight side last week as a free agent, after his contract with FK Mladá Boleslav expired this month.
“Yes, I had other offers from different clubs in Czechia and also other parts of Europe, but I chose this club because it has a good sportive project for me,” Sakala said.
Sakala joined Mladá Boleslav in 2023, making 45 appearances in the Czech First League and scoring two goals. His consistent performances played a crucial role in helping the club qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League during the 2023/24 season.
His European journey began in 2021 with FK Viktoria Zizkov, followed by a stint at Pribram in 2022, before earning a move to Mladá Boleslav the following year. His steady rise through the Czech football ranks has now led him to one of Prague’s established clubs, Bohemians.
At the international level, Sakala has been included in Avram Grant’s 25-man provisional Chipolopolo squad for the upcoming FIFA international window in June. Zambia is set to face Sudan on June 6 and Tunisia on June 10 as part of their preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures.
