Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh has been driven by his desire to rediscover his passion and enjoyment for football, his agent Murat Uzunmehmet has told Footy-Africa.
Mensah joined Al-Riyadh as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with UAE side Al-Nasr, signing a two-year deal that will run until June 2028.
Uzunmehmet, CEO and owner of Talent & Family Management, said the 31-year-old endured a difficult spell at Al-Nasr, which affected his enjoyment of the game.
“We are very happy now to be back home again. He has a name in the Saudi Pro League and he will do more things here,” Uzunmehmet told Footy-Africa.
“Last year was like a test for Mensah. He faced crazy injustices and situations at Al-Nasr. He lost his passion and joy for football there.”
The agent believes returning to Saudi Arabia will give Mensah the platform to regain his confidence and show his quality once again in a league where he has already made a name for himself.
“But now he is very happy to play in a strong league against world stars. He already proved himself in this league, but he still has more things to do for his team, and everyone will see this season,” he added.
Mensah previously enjoyed a successful spell with Al-Taee, where he emerged as one of the league’s leading playmakers and goalscorers.
His move to Al-Riyadh forms part of the club’s plans to strengthen their attacking options, with Egyptian star Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet also joining the team recently.
Mensah’s contract runs until June 2028, with additional incentives linked to his goals, assists, and the team’s league results.
