Turkish giants Beşiktaş have stepped up their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou and are set to make formal contact with Wolves next week as they look to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
The Black Eagles have confirmed Agbadou as their top defensive target, with the 28-year-old Ivorian now viewed internally as the club’s first-choice candidate to bolster the heart of the backline.
Interest intensifies Amid Wolves’ Difficult Season
Agbadou only joined Wolves last January in a deal worth around £16.6 million, but despite being a regular starter, he has endured a tough campaign with the Premier League side. Wolves have struggled badly at the back, conceding 33 goals in just 15 league matches, the worst defensive record in the division, and are widely tipped to be involved in a relegation battle.
Beşiktaş believe the situation at Molineux could present an opportunity. The Istanbul club see Agbadou as an experienced, physically dominant defender capable of making an immediate impact, particularly as they aim to push for domestic success and European qualification.

A potential move could also appeal to the player, who would escape a relegation fight and join a club competing at the top end of its league.
AFCON adds urgency to talks
Agbadou is expected to depart England later this month to link up with the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, a factor that adds urgency to any negotiations.
Wolves may be reluctant to weaken an already fragile defence mid-season, but Beşiktaş are keen to move quickly and clarify the defender’s availability before the tournament begins.

Exclusive: source confirms Beşiktaş Interest
A source close to Agbadou’s representatives, Aneke Player Management Group, has confirmed the growing interest, speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa.
“Beşiktaş have made it very clear that Emmanuel is a player they admire a lot,” the source said. “There has already been indirect contact, and we expect official communication between the clubs next week.”
“Emmanuel is fully focused on his responsibilities with Wolves and preparing for AFCON, but naturally he is aware of the interest. Beşiktaş are a historic club with big ambitions, and that kind of project always attracts attention. Any decision will be taken carefully and with respect to Wolves, but the interest is real and progressing,” the source added.
Despite Beşiktaş’ determination, the deal remains complicated. Wolves are unlikely to sanction a sale cheaply, particularly given their league position and Agbadou’s importance to the squad. Whether the Turkish giants can present a proposal convincing enough to change Wolves’ stance remains to be seen.
Agbadou is not the only player at Molineux drawing interest this January, with teammate Fer López also linked with a possible exit, suggesting Wolves could face a busy and decisive transfer window.
