James Bogere is fast building a reputation as a young footballer who never lets opportunity slip through his fingers.
Still only 17, the El Cambio Academy graduate has approached every challenge with confidence and maturity well beyond his years, steadily proving that pressure does not faze him. His call-up to the Uganda Cranes squad raised eyebrows in some quarters, largely due to his tender age, but Bogere has responded in the only way that matters, with performances that justify the faith placed in him.
Far from being a ceremonial addition to the squad in Morocco, the teenage striker has shown a clear hunger to contribute. The technical bench has already entrusted him with minutes off the bench in both Group C encounters against Tunisia and Tanzania, a sign of the growing belief in his ability.
Storm and Heartbreak: Okello miss leaves Uganda and Tanzania locked
His most telling contribution came in Saturday’s clash with Tanzania, when Bogere’s sharp movement and bravery inside the box forced a late penalty in stoppage time. Although Allan Okello was unable to convert from the spot, the moment underlined Bogere’s impact and willingness to take responsibility on a big stage.
Grateful for the chance to test himself at continental level, the youngster has been quick to acknowledge the confidence shown in him by the coaching staff.
“It is a great opportunity for me, this tournament has good players who come from big teams, so I am happy for the opportunity the coaches have given me,” said Bogere while speaking to the media after the game.
What stands out most about Bogere is not just his raw talent, but his composure.
Despite sharing a dressing room with seasoned internationals and competing against elite African opposition, he remains grounded and focused on long-term growth.
“You just have to know what you want, so I stay humble because I have a great future ahead of me,” he says.

With qualification hopes hanging in the balance, the Cranes must secure victory to keep their Round of 16 ambitions alive, and with Bogere’s fearless attitude, the youngest man in the squad may yet have another important role to play.
