Tunisia announced their intentions early at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, brushing aside Uganda Cranes 3-1 in a commanding Group C encounter played under relentless rain on Tuesday night in Morocco.

The Carthage Eagles were inspired by a clinical double from FC Copenhagen attacker Mohamed Elias Achouri, while Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Ellyes Joris Skhiri set the tone with a first-half opener. Ugandaโ€™s only bright moment on an otherwise frustrating evening came late on through substitute Denis Omedi of Rwandaโ€™s APR FC.

Tunisia wasted little time asserting their authority. Just 10 minutes into the contest at the Olympic Stadium, Skhiri rose highest to power home a header from a perfectly delivered corner by Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, capping a spell of early dominance by the North Africans.

The pressure continued, and five minutes before the interval Achouri doubled the advantage, reacting quickest inside the box to poke home from close range and send Tunisia into the break firmly in control at 2-0.

Uganda attempted to reset after halftime, introducing Denis Omedi for Jude Ssemugabi, a change that injected some urgency into their play. However, Tunisia remained disciplined and dangerous, managing the game with maturity and experience.

The Cranes eventually found the net in the closing stages when Omediโ€™s effort, following neat combination play involving Allan Okello and Toby Sibbick, took a heavy deflection on its way in to reduce the deficit. It proved too little, too late, as Tunisia comfortably saw out the match.

With the victory, Tunisia sit atop Group C with three points and a superior goal difference. Nigeria, who edged Tanzania 2-1 earlier in Fes, occupy second place.
