Uganda’s U-17 side, the Cubs, have made their World Cup debut feel like a seasoned return. From a shaky opener against Canada that ended 2-1, they have grown into the tournament with purpose and pride.

A gritty draw with Chile, a stunning victory over France, and now a monumental win over Senegal have propelled them into the knockout rounds as one of the best third-placed teams, a feat never before achieved by the nation.

The headlines have rightly celebrated goal-hungry forward James Bogere and the creative spark of Abubakari Walusimbi, Arafat Nkoola, and Isma Magala. At the back, Hamza Ssengooba’s command and Waibi’s safe gloves have anchored the team’s resilience.

But through every minute, every recovery run, every transition, there’s one constant presence: Brain Jjara.

The KCCA midfielder has been the glue, the guard, and the gear that keeps the Cubs ticking. A tireless shield in front of the defence and a springboard going forward, Jjara has logged every second he’s been given, sweeping up danger and feeding life into Uganda’s attacks.

His energy evokes comparisons to N’Golo Kanté, and it’s no surprise that scouts from Europe have already begun circling.

“There have been inquiries about him from several clubs in Europe but for now, we have told everyone to let the boy concentrate,” his agent Geoffrey Kayemba Solo exclusively told Footy-Africa.

Born on February 4, 2008, Jjara’s rise has been steep. His breakthrough came not long after turning 16, thrown into the KCCA first team by coach Abdallah Mubiru in a league clash against Maroons. The result? A 5-0 win and a Man of the Match performance that announced his arrival.

Today, on the global stage in Qatar, he is not just living the moment, he is shaping it.

While others may get the goals and the glory, Uganda’s pulse beats in the boots of Brain Jjara, the relentless engine powering a dream no longer limited by history.
