Spanish Segunda side Granada CF have entered talks with English Premier League side Burnley for the former’s budding Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei Oppong, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

This comes after months of interest which resulted in Burnley negotiating with the player on personal terms through his representatives at Best of You Agency. Burnley have now submitted an initial offer of €600,000. It should be noted that the player’s contract will expire next in June.

While talks have commenced between the involved teams, it is worth noting that Granada want compensation in the region of €1 million. Meanwhile, Burnley intends to hand the youngster a long-term six-year contract, should they sign him.

“While they (Burnley) hold an agreement with the player, they still have to negotiate with Granada. They submitted their first bid on Saturday of €600,000, but it’s still shy of the €1 million that Granada want. They are talking and are now advancing well. With the player, Burnley want to hand him a six-year contract, with the hope of nurturing, they see him as the right profile for the long-term project,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.

Last season at Granada, Naasei played seven games across the Spanish Segunda (division 2) and the Copa Del Rey with the senior team. He also made an additional 13 appearances for Recreativo Granada, which is the reserve team of the former. In the 2023/24 campaign, the 20-year-old featured 31 times for Recreativo Granada and Granada U19 combined.

Meanwhile, at the international stage, Naasei has yet to feature in a competitive match for Ghana’s National senior team, the Black Stars. However, he has previously featured for the country’s youth level U17 and U20 teams.
