After an extended period of reported interest, Scottish powerhouse Celtic have eventually made initial contact with Czech Republic top-flight outfit FC Viktoria Plzen over a possible move for highly-rated Nigerian youngster Rafiu Durosinmi, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The 55-time Scottish Premier League champions have made their intentions clear, and inquired about the player’s contract situation, and asked about the valuation of the player, who is left with just under 12 months before the expiry of his contract at Viktoria Plzen
In an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa, a source at MMELL Sports Company, who are the player’s representatives, disclosed that Viktoria Plzen have asked for €10 million. However, while negotiations are still at an earlier stage, Celtic intend to pay €6 million with add-ons for the striker.
“This is the first serious formal contact to Viktoria Plzen for Rafiu (Durosinmi), despite numerous reports. Celtic have initiated contact with a €6 million bid, with performance-related add-ons. However, Viktoria Plzen are still holding out for €10 million, but the talks are still raw at this point. The player wants the move, but also, Viktoria Plzen don’t want to lose him for free next year,” the source exclusively intimated to Footy-Africa.
The 22-year-old has been the subject of interest from multiple European sides, including Besiktas, Lazio and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who has recently concluded his third season at Viktoria Plzen.
The 22-year-old Nigerian has been in decent form for the Czech side this season, despite the multiple injuries, scoring nine goals and assisting four times in 22 matches across all competitions. In the 2023/24 campaign, the youngster scored nine goals and assisted on five occasions in 19 appearances for Viktoria Plzen.
Meanwhile, at the international stage, Durosinmi has yet to complete a full competitive cap for the Nigerian senior national team, The Super Eagles, despite receiving a call-up previously.
