Turkish Super League side Samsunspor completed the signing of Senegal international Cherif Ndiaye from Serbian club Red Star Belgrade at the end of the transfer window, in a club-record deal.

Samsunspor reportedly agreed a fee of around €4 million for the services of the prolific forward, who returns to Turkey just two years after leaving, eclipsing the €3 million fee paid for Afonso Sousa earlier in the transfer window.

The 29-year-old signed a four-year-contract, potentially keeping him at the club until 2029 and is expected to receive an annual salary of about €1.33 million plus bonuses.

Ndiaye initially moved to Turkey in 2020, joining Goztepe, but left the country in 2022 for a brief stint in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Port. He returned for a second spell with Adana Demispor, before leaving once again for Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, where he won two league titles and finished as the league’s top scorer last season.

Now in his third stint in the Turkish league, the Senegalese forward scored on his Samsunspor debut, netting the club’s second goal with a superb shot in the 3-2 win over Faith Karagumruk last weekend and will hope to replicate his impressive goal scoring feats at his former side.

Transfer fee and contract details

Samsunspor agreed to pay a transfer fee of around €4 million, a new club-record, for the services of the prolific attacker.

The Turkish side beat the likes of Spanish side Villareal, newly-promoted French side Paris FC and German Bundesliga side Mainz to the signature of the Senegal striker, adding more firepower to their attack after missing out on Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

Salary breakdown

Per Capology, Cherif Ndiaye will earn a basic salary of about €20,385 per week plus about €5,192 in bonuses, amounting to €25,577 weekly and €1.33 million annually including bonuses. Over the course of his four-year stay at the club, the striker’s total earnings could exceed €5.32 million.

The Senegal forward is a valuable addition to the team and becomes their most expensive signing in history, with Samsunspor’s total investments set to exceed €9.32 million.

From Belgrade to Northern Turkey

Cherif Ndiaye arrives at Samsunspor in better form than in his previous spells in the country. After spells at Goztepe and Adana Demispor, the Senegal striker enjoyed the most prolific seasons of his career in his two-year stay at Red Star Belgrade.

The 29-year-old netted on his debut for Samsunspor, offering fans a glimpse of his quality, and will aim to carry on with his goalscoring form throughout the season.
