Chipolopolo defender Frankie Musonda is in talks with Bahrain SC for a potential move following his departure from Scottish Championship side Ayr United last May, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
According to Footy-Africa’s information, Musonda, currently a free agent, has been in discussions with the Bahraini club over the past week, although no official agreement has been reached yet.
Zambiaโs coach Avram Grant also hinted that the defender is set to sign with a club and will feature in a friendly match with the same team, which he did not name.
โFrankie is a fantastic player. I am happy that he has found a club, and he will be playing,โ Grant said in the exclusive comment for Footy-Africa on Thursday after announcing his squad for the September World Cup qualifier against Morocco, which includes Musonda.
The 27-year-old joined Ayr United from Raith Rovers in June 2022 and signed a one-year extension last year. However, last season proved challenging for the Brentford-born defender, who was limited to just 16 appearances due to recurring injuries. He started only 11 matches and registered a single assist. His injury struggles also saw him miss several key fixtures, including Zambiaโs 5โ0 defeat to Russia in an international friendly in April.
Zambian Defender Frankie Musonda Sought After by Belgian Clubs
Despite these setbacks, Musonda left Ayr United having made 71 appearances โ the most at any club in his career, scoring five goals and providing three assists. He played a key role during his time at the club, which narrowly missed out on promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season.
It now remains to be seen if a deal will be finalized between Musonda and Bahrain SC, as the player is understood to be weighing his options before making a final decision.
