Brentford announced the arrival of Burkina Faso forward Dango Ouattara from league rivals Bournemouth in a club-record deal in August.

The Bees agreed to pay a fee of £42.5 million for the 23-year-old, eclipsing the previous club-record transfer fee, a £30 million fee paid to Belgium side Club Brugge to sign striker Igor Thiago last summer.

Bournemouth were reluctant to sell their prized asset, after already losing several members of the squad that finished ninth in the English Premier League standings in the previous campaign, but the player’s willingness to join Brentford ensured that the deal was completed in time.

Ouattara penned a five-year deal at the Gtech Community Stadium, potentially keeping him at the club until June 2030 and was given the number 19 jersey previously worn by Bryan Mbeumo, who left to join Manchester United earlier in the transfer window.

The 23-year-old was signed as a like-for-like replacement for the Cameroonian and has already showed glimpses of his quality to the club supporters, scoring the winner on his debut against Aston Villa in August.

Transfer fee and contract details

Brentford agreed a deal of £42.5 million plus add-ons for the Burkina Faso forward, acquiring their prime target early in the transfer window.

The Bees beat Nottingham Forest to the signature of Ouattara, with the latter opting to sign winger Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town in a £37.5 million deal.

Salary breakdown

Per Capology, Dango Ouattara will earn a basic salary of £65,000 per week and about £16,250 in performance-related bonuses, amounting to £81,250 weekly and about £4.23 million annually.

Over the course of his five-year stay at the club, the 23-year-old could earn well over £21.1 million in wages.

He becomes the most expensive addition in the club’s history, with their total expenditure in his signature expected to exceed £63.6 million.

From South coast England to West London

Dango Ouattara first moved to England in 2023 after an impressive spell in his first European club, Lorient in the French League.

The 23-year-old impressed at the Cherries in his two-year stay and arrived at West London this summer with plenty of promise and quality, evident in his goal against Aston Villa on his club debut.
