Newly invited Super Eagles striker Akor Adams in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa expressed his delight to finally earn a call-up to Nigeria’s senior team after a blistering run of form recently in La Liga.
The Sevilla forward, who previously played for Montpellier, exclusively told Footy-Africa that it has always been his dream to wear the green and white jersey, having previously represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form, scoring in back-to-back league games against Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona, performances that caught the attention of national team selectors.
“For me, the focus has always been staying fit and playing consistently for my club,” Adams said. “Everything else will fall into place. Injuries are part of the game, but I never stopped believing the opportunity would come.”
“At this point, the invitation is a confirmation of what I can achieve. It’s a reminder that everything is possible. I thank God for this chance and hopefully, I’ll get minutes on the pitch. Above all, I’m grateful to represent Nigeria,” he added.
Adams, who narrowly missed out on the final squad in the last international window, believes the Super Eagles still have what it takes to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their current position in Group C.
“Football is played until the last minute. For Nigeria, that means fighting to the end and expecting the best possible outcome,” he said. “We’ll give everything we have, and hopefully, it will be enough.”
