FC Porto have reached an agreement with Medeama SC for the transfer of highly rated Ghanaian youngster Kelvin Nkrumah, with the 18-year-old set to travel to Portugal this week to complete the move, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
Sources close to the deal say Nkrumah attracted strong interest from clubs in Austria and Belgium following an impressive campaign, but it was the Portuguese giants who ultimately won the race for his signature.
Porto are understood to have closely monitored the midfielder throughout the season, dispatching scouts to watch him on several occasions. The club were left impressed by his ability to glide past opponents, his vision and passing range, prompting negotiations with Medeama that eventually led to a verbal agreement.
Medeama were equally satisfied with Porto’s proposal, believing the Portuguese club offered the best environment for the teenager’s development. Sources say Porto assured both the player and his representatives that he would receive the right guidance to maximise his potential.
The agreement also includes a sell-on clause, ensuring Medeama will benefit financially from any future transfer involving the Ghana youth international.
Nkrumah is expected to sign a long-term contract upon his arrival in Portugal and will initially split his time between FC Porto’s first team and B team as he adapts to European football.
Nkrumah, who joined Medeama in 2024, was influential in helping the club secure the Ghana Premier League with several man-of-the-match performances.
