Fiorentina’s worst fears have been confirmed after Ghanaian full-back Tariq Lamptey sustained a serious knee injury in their Serie A clash with Como on Sunday evening.

The 24-year-old, making his full debut for the Viola following a summer move, lasted just 22 minutes before collapsing in visible pain at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Medical scans conducted the following day revealed the extent of the damage, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The blow not only rules Lamptey out for several months but also derails his hopes of quickly cementing a place in Vincenzo Italiano’s side. For Ghana, the setback could not have come at a worse moment, with vital 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers looming next month.

The match itself ended in further disappointment for Fiorentina. Despite taking the lead through Rolando Mandragora, the home side crumbled after the interval, conceding to Marc-Oliver Kempf before Dutch-born Ghanaian striker Jayden Addai snatched a stoppage-time winner to seal a 2-1 victory for Como. The result handed the Viola consecutive league defeats and piled pressure on Italiano.

The news marks another cruel twist in a career already marred by fitness troubles. The former Brighton defender was eager to relaunch his trajectory in Italy, but instead now faces a lengthy rehabilitation period that could see him sidelined for the bulk of the campaign.
