Genoa forward Caleb Ekuban is on the verge of signing a new contract extension that would keep him at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris until June 2027, according to Africafoot.

The 31-year-old, whose current deal was set to expire in 2026, has reached an “agreement in principle” with the club’s hierarchy following a series of influential performances under manager Daniele De Rossi.

The news come just days after the Ghana international sparked a sensational second-half comeback in a 3-2 victory over Bologna.

Super-sub of Liguria

Ekuban’s importance to the Rossoblu was highlighted last Sunday. After being introduced in the 73rd minute with Genoa trailing 2-1, the striker leveled the score with a stunning right-footed volley—his second goal of the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite predominantly serving as an impact sub this season, Ekuban’s work rate and tactical flexibility have made him a favorite of De Rossi.

The veteran forward has made 17 league appearances this term, proving to be a reliable alternative in an attacking rotation that includes Junior Messias and Vitinha.

Genoa’s 2025/26 Campaign at a Glance

Genoa currently occupy a comfortable mid-table position, defying early-season expectations of a relegation scrap.

Four-year legacy

Since his €2.6m move from Trabzonspor in August 2021, Ekuban has experienced the highs and lows of the Grifone, including their brief stint in Serie B and subsequent return to Italy’s top flight.

The proposed one-year extension is seen as a reward for his locker-room leadership and his knack for scoring crucial goals. Valued at €1.5m, Ekuban remains one of the more experienced heads in a squad that has integrated several young talents over the last two transfer windows.
