Victor Osimhen officially resumed with Galatasaray on August 1, 2025, taking part in his first training session since completing a permanent move from Napoli.

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju, who had previously told Footy-Africa he hoped Osimhen would prioritise happiness in his next move, welcomed the news.

“I was happy when I saw the news about his move. If you remember, I said I wanted him to go where he would be happy. Judging from his comments when he arrived in Turkey, I think he is,” Adepoju exclusively told Footy-Africa.

He acknowledged the difficulty of the transfer period for Osimhen: “A lot must have been going through his mind. These situations are never easy.”

Adepoju believes the transition will be smooth, especially after last season’s success with the club.

“Osimhen is already well loved at Galatasaray. He won the league and cup with them last season, so he’s familiar with the environment. That continuity matters.”

“He’s a strong character and a proven goalscorer. Galatasaray have got a striker who can help them defend their title and make an impact in the Champions League.”

“I’m happy for him and I hope this next chapter goes well for both him and the club,” he added.

The Nigerian striker’s transfer, worth €75 million, has a new record in Turkish football. The 26-year-old had spent the 2024/25 season on loan at the Istanbul club, playing a key role in their domestic double triumph.

His return was widely expected after a successful campaign that saw him win the club’s Player of the Season award.

Osimhen had offers from other clubs but Napoli’s asking price and his salary demands put off suitors.

As part of the deal, Galatasaray will pay the Italian side  €40 million upfront, with the remaining €35 million due by the end of 2026.

Osimhen ended last season with 37 goals and eight assists in 41 matches across all competitions.
