Nigerian striker Akor Adams in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa expressed his delight at the opportunity of representing the nation at the 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
The Sevilla striker made a goalscoring debut for the national team in October, netting the winner few minutes after coming on in the 2-1 win over Lesotho in a qualifying match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His impressive showings for the Super Eagles earned him a spot in the final 28-man squad unveiled by head coach Eric Chelle and a chance to make his debut on Africa’s biggest stage.
‘One step further’: Semi Ajayi optimistic about Nigeria’s chances at AFCON 2025
“Even not just for the AFCON, to be part of the Super Eagles is a blessing for me and I’m grateful to God and I do not take it for granted. I try to give my best and I’m happy to be here”, the Sevilla forward exclusively told Footy-Africa.
Nigeria will be eyeing a fourth continental crown in Morocco and an improvement on their second-placed finish in 2023, when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the final.
However, Adams believes the team are well equipped to go all the way in this edition.
“We’ll give our best and we trust God for a very good outcome”, he continued.
The 25-year-old also scored in Nigeria’s last visit to Morocco, during the CAF playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although they fell short in their qualification bid after losing to DR Congo in the final.
“I think I’m disappointed as a Nigerian and every player on the team, but it’s football. In life you have to look forward and we have another opportunity to redeem ourselves.
‘No high hopes for Nigeria winning AFCON’: Usman Abdallah on Super Eagles
I think there are no advantages compared to how much you prepare. It doesn’t matter the weather or if you’ve been here a thousand times. If you prepare good, you’re going to play good and that is what we have been doing”, Adams concluded.
The Super Eagles are up against Tanzania on Tuesday at the Fez Stadium in Fes, hoping to start their campaign on a winning note.
