Nigerian centre-back Ibrahim Buhari in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa spoke about completing a move to FK Austria Wien, gave a promise to the fans, and expressed his delight on joining one of Austria’s biggest clubs.
“I am very happy to have joined this club. It is one of the biggest clubs in Austria and I am here to give my best for the team in the new season,” Buhari exclusively told Footy-Africa.
“It has been a long journey for me, from Zaria to making my mark in Nigerian football with Plateau United, and then moving to Elfsborg in Sweden. Every step has played an important role in my development.”
Before moving to Austria, Ibrahim Buhari established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in Swedish football, making 77 appearances for IF Elfsborg after joining the club from Nigeria Premier Football League side Plateau United in 2022.

“This is another chapter in my career and another challenge that I am looking forward to. I will give everything for this club and hopefully we can win titles together.”
“Moving from Sweden to Austria shows that my hard work is paying off, but I know there is still a long way to go. I will continue working hard every day to become the best professional footballer I can be.”
Buhari has completed a permanent move to Austrian Bundesliga giants FK Austria Wien on a free transfer. The 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029 and has been handed the iconic No. 3 shirt.
“The fans should expect me to give one hundred percent every time I wear this shirt. I can’t wait to get started.”
Austria Wien moved quickly to secure Buhari’s signature following the departure of Croatian defender Tin Plavotić, identifying the Nigerian as the ideal replacement to strengthen their backline.

Standing at 1.90 metres, Buhari is renowned for his aerial dominance, strong tackling, composure on the ball and leadership qualities, attributes sporting director Tomas Zorn believes will add quality and stability to the team’s defence.
The former Plateau United defender is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately as Austria Wien continue their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
For Buhari, the move marks another significant milestone in his European journey. It also presents an opportunity to test himself in another competitive league while strengthening his case for a return to Nigeria’s senior national team.
